The stylish new triangular building of Heathcote’s Valley Inn Tavern rose from the ruins of the pub that was destroyed in the September 2010 earthquake. It was the first rebuild in the city and although this is a new bar and restaurant, there is 130 years of history that has not been left behind.
Physically all that is left of the pre- earthquake building is the deep brick lined well that now features as a centre bar leaner, and the stately old pepper trees in the courtyard. Paintings, old photos and quaint memoribilia of both the tavern and the history of Heathcote line the walls.
Patrons can enjoy a leisurely drink or a restaurant style meal in traditional old English ambience, or relax in the courtyard in tranquil surrounds., you won’t even know you are only minutes from the city centre!
The bar hosts big screens for sporting events, self service TAB terminals, a handful of poker machines, and a juke box for the customers entertainment.
