Matson’s Brewery is proud to be 100% New Zealand owned and operated and is the brewer of naturally crafted beer that contains no preservatives, additives or chemicals.
The owners and staff at Matson’s Brewery are committed to taking the brewery from its rather quaint niche status to a brewery of national significance. Our commitment to remain 100% New Zealand owned remains paramount in our future plans.
While other main breweries now have majority overseas ownership, Matson’s Brewery has stayed very much in New Zealand ownership, employing all local staff but at the same time supplying product from Nelson to the West Coast, Oamaru and Dunedin.
The Matson’s name was derived from an early Canterbury family of astute businessmen involved in auctioneering, stock and station agents and liquor wholesaling.
While the Matson family still survive in Canterbury, they do not have any direct association with the brewery, but the brewery is proud to carry on such a pioneering name.
Matson’s Brewery is situated in Sockburn, just off Parkhouse Road, Christchurch, and is fronted by the Parkhouse Tavern. Call in and have a Matson’s beer while you look through the brewery – you are most welcome. Tours are available on request.
